Portal is the official Archived Data User Service (ADUS) transportation data archive of the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro Metropolitan Area. Portal serves as a resource for practitioners, researchers, and other public and private institutions and individuals interested in education, performance measurements, research, and data driven decisions in policy and enforcement.

Background

Portal was developed in recognition of the value for archiving data from Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Archived data dates back to 2004 and has grown from one freeway data feed from Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to include data from Washington County, City of Portland, and Tri-Met in Oregon, and Clark County and C-Tran in southwest Washington state. Types of data that are currently archived include following modes of transportation:

Freeway speeds and volumes
Arterial counts
Arterial signal cycle
Bluetooth arterial travel times
Transit performance

Portal is continuously working towards developing partnerships with other regional and local jurisdictions in providing archival services and expanding resources for transportation practitioners, researchers, and educators. For a more detailed background please refer to Tufte et al. (2015).

Structure of PORTAL Documentation

For each page on the PORTAL website there is a corresponding section under "Tutorials and Examples Using Portal" that documents how to use the tools on that page. In addition, there is a "Tour" button at the top right corner of each page on the PORTAL website where the user can click on it and take a tour of tools.

Each "Tutorials and Examples Using Portal" section includes a brief introduction with learning objectives, followed by a tutorial with examples on how to use the tools on the page, and lastly additional information and references regarding the information presented for each section.
